Families celebrated Houlton’s first Christmas this month with the help of the Mayor of Rugby, Santa and his reindeer.
The fun and festivities began on Saturday 9th December with the Rotary Club of Rugby Dunsmore providing live entertainment and carol singing. Performances included: The Dunchurch Voices, Rugby’s Young Musician of the Year 2017, Dunchurch Brass Band and the Rugby Male Voice Choir. The Handcrafted Delights team held a craft fair in The Barn, which welcomed people into the warmth. Mayor of Rugby, Belinda Garcia, then pushed the button to switch on Houlton’s beautiful Christmas lights.
The celebrations continued the following weekend, on Saturday 16th December, when Santa arrived with his reindeer. Commencing with a parade to Dollman Farm, two lucky children were able to ride with Santa in his sleigh, before he went to his grotto to greet all of the children. Around 300 excited little ones saw Santa in his grotto over the weekend, whilst mums and dads enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies supplied by The Tuning Fork.
Everyone braved the chilly weather to feed and pet the reindeer, who had made the journey from Cairngorm in the Scottish highlands. The Barn hosted an array of activities for the children, including colouring in and gingerbread decorating, and a balloon modeller impressed everyone with her talents.
It’s hoped that all of these successful Houlton Christmas events herald the start of an annual tradition within the community, and encourage everyone to come along next year.
